Briefly: On Faith in an Inner City Classroom

Snippet from a Conversation with an Incoming Teaching Fellow

Faith. It is exactly what will keep you in the classroom the days the kids are meanest and your boss the most obnoxious. Faith is what will remind you that the seeds you’re sowing will come to fruition even if they never come to bear for you to see. You are about to embark on an internal journey unlike any other–you will see all your faults, flaws, weaknesses, and shortcomings daily and in neon lights. But faith that they’re worth it, faith in the prospects, faith that the Lord has appointed you for the task at hand will keep you there honing your craft into an art, pursuing excellence for those 150 hearts, minds and souls–serving for something far greater than yourself. Glory to God in the highest, hats off to the teacher up front. Amen.
